Long-Island-based Energy Engineering and Design Firm Recognized with Platinum Award for Energy Saving Project Demonstrating Complexity, Innovation, and Value to Society

Smithtown, NY – November, 2025 – Energia (www.energiasaves.com), a leading energy engineering and design consultancy, has been named a Platinum Award recipient for the 2026 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Award given by The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York. The award recognizes the complexity, innovation and value to society Energia achieved during a $125 million revitalization project the firm conducted in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia.

The project, funded almost entirely by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, modernized original heating systems and added central cooling and ventilation systems across eight elementary schools, ranging from 60 to over 110 years old. Energia served as the owner’s representative and energy engineers, acting as the School District’s advocate and providing strategic guidance to NORESCO, the prime construction contractor. The project was completed on budget and ahead of its aggressive schedule.

In total, 131 projects will be honored at the 59th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, which will take place at the Hilton Midtown in New York City on April 18, 2026. This event is co-sponsored by the ACEC New York Scholarship Fund, in conjunction with the Gala, which will award more than $100,000 to NYS engineering students.

Energia’s Award Winning ACEC NY Panel

“Energia thanks ACEC New York for this tremendous recognition reflecting the project expertise, engineering innovation, and customer commitment that our entire team provides to all our customers.”

— Kendra McQuilton, CEO

“We are proud of the significant energy savings results achieved by the School District of Philadelphia. The project’s success is a testament to the District’s unwavering commitment to providing top-notch learning and working environments for its students and staff,” said Kendra McQuilton, Energia CEO.

The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented to projects that encompass both the public and private sector in the following categories: studies, research, and consulting services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; energy; industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities; small projects; and special projects.

Each year, over 50 member firms submit projects that are judged on a rigorous set of criteria, which includes complexity, innovation and value to society. These projects are judged by a panel of industry experts, which includes military and government officials, ACEC National and International leadership, educators from college and university engineering departments, and leadership from other organizations dedicated to the built environment. Awards are distributed based on the average scores received by these judges and are assigned one of four levels (in ascending order): Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.

The top-rated Diamond award that is designed and built entirely within New York State will earn the Empire Award, which will be announced during the gala.  In addition to celebrating among peers, the Engineering Excellence Awards program helps to publicize the many significant contributions consulting engineers make to the built environment throughout the world. A full list of winning projects is available on the ACEC New York website, as well as information on purchasing tickets and sponsorships for the April 18th Engineering Excellence Gala, or contact (518) 452-8611 for more information.
