As we close out the year, we extend warm holiday wishes to our AEC partners and colleagues.
For more than 25 years, Energia has supported architects, engineers, and public-sector agencies with strategic energy engineering and architectural design services. As a certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), we collaborate with teams across the Northeast on complex public projects that require performance, accountability, and long-term value.
Since 1998, Energia has contributed to more than 150 public projects nationwide, helping clients achieve over $1 billion in verified energy savings. Our integrated team provides technical and financial expertise throughout the full project lifecycle, from early planning and design through construction administration and performance verification.
By aligning sustainability goals with practical, cost-conscious strategies and renewable energy solutions, Energia helps communities improve building performance, reduce operational costs, and invest in resilient infrastructure for the future.
Energia Earns Platinum Recognition at the 2026 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards
Energia was awarded a Platinum Award in the 2026 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) New York Engineering Excellence Awards for a $125 million energy infrastructure revitalization project completed with the School District of Philadelphia. Funded primarily through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, the project modernized heating systems and added central cooling and ventilation across eight schools ranging from 60 to over 110 years old. Energia served as owner’s representative and energy engineer, providing strategic oversight and advocacy throughout delivery. The project was recognized for its technical complexity, innovation, and value to the public sector.
From Phase III to Phase IV: Extending Energy Performance
Through Strategic Upgrades at Kings Park
Energia’s continued collaboration with the Kings Park Central School District demonstrates how long-term energy planning can uncover additional value well beyond initial Energy Performance Contract implementations.
Following the completion of earlier phases, Phase III focused on identifying advanced efficiency and infrastructure upgrades that aligned with the district’s operational and capital planning goals. These measures included a solar PV walkway canopy, fuel conversions from oil to natural gas, boiler system replacements, and enhanced building management system optimization. Together, these improvements supported a $6.37 million capital investment and delivered approximately $330,000 in annual energy savings.
Building on this foundation, Phase IV is set to expand on-site solar generation and deploy additional high-efficiency boiler systems. Once implemented, the district is projected to reduce energy costs by 62 percent, reinforcing a long-term strategy centered on performance, resiliency, and responsible investment in public facilities.
Westbury UFSD: A Model for Energy-Efficient Schools
The Westbury Union Free School District (UFSD) Energy Performance Project demonstrates visionary leadership in sustainability and energy efficiency. Launched in February 2022, this district-wide initiative invested $12.1 million in advanced energy solutions, including solar installations, LED lighting, HVAC upgrades, and building management enhancements across six schools and two administrative buildings. By leveraging State Building Aid and ESSER funds, the district achieved these improvements with no out-of-pocket cost to taxpayers. Completed in June 2023, the project positions Westbury as a model for other districts pursuing sustainable infrastructure.
Superintendent Dr. Tahira DuPree Chase highlighted the importance of collaboration, saying, “The partnership is so key. At the end of the day, we could have chosen anyone, but it is the partnership and the relationship that make this initiative successful.”
Project Highlights:
- Project Size: $19.6M
- Projected Annual Savings: $2.18M
- Year One Actual Savings: $9.8M (350% beyond guarantee)
- Energy Cost Reduction: 46.3%
Examples of Energy Conservation Measures:
- Carport Solar (803 kW)
- Roof-Mounted Solar (340.4 kW)
- Air Handling Replacement (9 Units)
- Building Management Upgrades (8 Facilities)
- Boiler Plant Upgrade (4 Boilers)
