FREEPORT, NY

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Phase II EPC project for the Freeport UFSD allowed the District to implement comprehensive LED upgrades district-wide while also funding critical infrastructure upgrades. Energia initiated this project in the 2016-17 school year by conducting a preliminary feasibility study, coordinating the Request for Proposals process, and assisting the in selecting the best partner for their Phase II EPC project.

HIGHLIGHTS

The District used the EPC as an innovative funding source to implement critical upgrades.

As the Freeport Union Free School District underwent major aesthetic renovations, essential HVAC-related systems needed upgrades as well. With limited funds to address both types of needs, the district teamed with Energia to spearhead an EPC to simultaneously address critical infrastructure, while major aesthetic projects were undertaken district-wide.  The District used the EPC as an innovative funding source to implement critical upgrades without impacting the tax base or internal capital reserve funds that were set aside for aesthetic upgrades.

Examples of Energy Conservation Measures:
  • Rooftop air handling units
  • 100% conversion to district-wide LED lighting
  • Upgraded to chillers for multiple schools
  • Modernization of temperature controls
