Schenectady City School District

Schenectady, NY

Project Overview

Energia initiated an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) project with the Schenectady City School District in 2019, by completing a Preliminary Energy Assessment, issuing a request for proposals to energy services companies (ESCOs), and performing a thorough evaluation of those proposals for the school district.   After the appointment of the Energy Service Company, Honeywell, Energia oversaw the development of the Comprehensive Energy Audit (CEA) and contract terms and conditions.  The resulting $9M+ worth of identified energy system upgrades included: lighting systems, heating control valves, temperature controls, and boiler upgrades.

Highlights

Energia and the Schenectady City School District assessed capital plans at each building to ensure that the New York State aid reimbursement was maximized.

The Schenectady City School District had a large and comprehensive capital construction project underway during the Energy Performance Contract engagement. In developing the scope of work and financials of the Energy Performance Contract, the Energia team worked directly with the district and capital construction team to proactively coordinate future work and the implementation schedules.  Most importantly, the district needed to ensure each building’s maximum cost allowance was not exceeded. Energia, utilizing its expertise in finance, engineering, and project management, was able to assess past, present, and future capital plans at each building and validate that the New York state aid reimbursement was maximized.

Five Examples of Energy Conservation Measures:
