The Phase II Energy Performance Contract (EPC) was developed by the Energia team and district administration with two major goals in mind: roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) and improvements to the temperature controls system. The Phase I Energy Performance Contract was recently completed and eliminated many of the pneumatic temperature controls in the district facilities. However, the new system was never properly commissioned and there were on-going comfort issues in the learning environment. Despite not being involved in the Phase I project, Energia assisted the district with navigating the development and approval of a Phase II EPC to improve temperature control issues and deploy solar PV across the district’s new roofs. This EPC project was also able to fund the replacement of a rooftop air handling unit supporting the major cost of bringing the sought-after air conditioning to the district’s facilities.

Under the guidance of Energia, the district was able to implement roof replacements and the deployment of air conditioning.

The school district had recently earned approval from the local community via a public referendum to pursue a capital project. Some of the highlights of this project included district-wide roof replacements and the deployment of air conditioning to several common areas throughout the district. To counteract the increased electricity usage from air conditioning, the district engaged Energia to investigate opportunities to generate savings elsewhere. The Energia team coordinated this EPC project with the bond scope to identify opportunities for solar PV, LED upgrades, and temperature controls to drive savings and avoid a major increase in electric usage from the installation of air conditioning.
