Senior Energy Engineer
Full-Time
Job Summary:
The Senior Energy Engineer will serve as the chief coordinator for the robust energy management and reduction plan that threads through several City agencies. This position will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of a large technical quality assurance program dedicated to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and for the administration of ongoing maintenance and operational activities. The Senior Energy Engineer will perform highly technical duties and have broad oversight regarding building rehabilitation, repair, and maintenance to align City owned and/or supervised buildings with the Mayor’s initiative regarding greenhouse gas emissions. Performs other related work.

Location:
Energia is based in Smithtown, New York and performs activities on a hybrid work schedule. This role will primarily work in NYC worksites and is expected to attend in-person strategic and planning meetings as needed.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Serves as chief coordinator on capital and other projects providing building rehabilitation, repair, and maintenance services to City owned and/or supervised buildings. Performs highly technical and complex assessments and design reviews for capital projects related to Boilers and HVAC Systems.
- Reviews and verifies ASHRAE Level I, II and III energy audit reports for accuracy and adherence to Local Law 87 Retro-commissioning requirements.
- Performs energy feasibility studies for quality assurance energy efficiency projects, including preliminary design development, review of project electrical and mechanical requirements, cost estimates, project savings and overall life-cycle cost analysis; conducts energy modeling to assess project savings and impact.
- Reviews and modifies existing standards and specifications for energy efficiency. Liaises with NYC School Construction Authority (SCA).
- Performs calculations for high efficiency HVAC equipment, motors, controls, compressors, and lighting systems to determine energy savings compared to baseline equipment and or building codes.
- Assists in developing policies and procedures to insure cost effective program implementation and conformance to applicable rules, regulations, industry standards, and contract specifications.
- Provides guidance and oversight commissioning process to ensure that projects are consistent with design intent, design basis, and owner project requirements. Provides field verification through witnessing and testing to ensure project quality and adherence to design.
- Conducts research and review of the newest and most-energy efficient technology and makes recommendations for new energy efficiency projects.
- Reviews Measurement and Verification plans and reports for energy projects. Makes high-level consultative determinations regarding plans and reports.
- Administers and manages targeted goals related to greenhouse gas emission.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Master’s Degree in Energy Management or related field.
- Active NYS PE license.
- Understanding of New York City building codes, construction standards and energy code.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards.
- Candidates with CEA, CEM, CBCP, CMVP and/or BOC Level II certifications.
- Extensive knowledge of building energy systems, e.g.,. lighting, HVAC, BMS/pneumatic controls, electrical, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, eQUEST, and other energy modeling software.
- Good technical written and oral communication skills.

Energy Engineer
Consultant
Energy Engineer (Consultant)
Energia is looking for competent, qualified energy performance development engineers to assist in the technical evaluation of energy performance contracting (EPC) proposals, ESCO interviews, Comprehensive Energy Audit reviews, field inspections, design, and/or Measurement and Verification on a project-by-project basis. Experience in the field of Energy Performance Contracting/work for an ESCO is ideal. This position would be on a 10-99 basis. Great opportunity for lucrative side work.
Required Experience:
- Must have direct industry experience working with Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs), Energy Savings
- Improvement Plan (ESIPs), Guaranteed Energy Savings Agreements (GESAs), etc.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science and/or Masters Degree in Engineering
- PE, BEMP, CEM, CEA, or EIT Accreditation
- Direct experience in the Energy Performance Contracting industry a plus
- Strong working knowledge of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocols (IPMVP)
- Understanding of M&V plan development based on project scope & goals
- Energy Auditing – ASHRAE Level I, II, and III
- Experience in the energy field including energy efficiency, distributed energy generation, combined heat and power (cogeneration), energy project economics, utility rate analysis, renewable energy, HVAC, central heating and cooling plants
- Experience calculating the associated energy savings in steam, hydronic, refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, turbines, air compressors, motors, and other commercial building systems
- Knowledge of building and energy codes as well as energy standards in the Tri-State area
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
